Big Bear Lake Weather
has four distinct seasons due to its “alpine tundra climate.” Nestled within the San Bernardino National Forest and at close to 7,000 feet, it is the only place in Southern California that has four seasons along with 300 days of sunshine per year. In the summertime the average temperature ranges from a pleasant 70 degrees to 88 degrees during the day, and a cool 45 to 60 degrees at night. Big Bear is one of the sunniest places in the world, and a typical summer day is clear with blue skies, with an occasional thundershower. The average winter temperatures range from 20 to 64 degrees during the day and 8 to 39 degrees at night. Winter storms blanket the area with snow, making the pines and mountains look like picture postcards. The early winter snows stay on the ground for weeks. Visitors to the state should keep in mind that winter temperatures vary greatly in southern California, depending on the altitude. It can be 70 degrees in Los Angeles, but only 40 degrees in the mountains.
